About The Position

Dauphin County Parks and Recreation is currently accepting applications for the position of Part Time Maintenance Worker II. The starting rate for this position is $16.32 per hour. Weekends are required. The objective of the employee in this role is to perform general maintenance duties and assist with repairs, constructions and recreational/education programs within the County Parks System's buildings and grounds. The employee in this role is responsible for but not limited to performing the following essential functions listed below.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program.
  • One (1) year of working experience in maintenance or custodial environment.
  • Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential job duties.
  • Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with general public, co-workers and others.
  • Must possess knowledge of the methods, tools and practices used in general maintenance and repair work.
  • Must possess knowledge and ability to detect defects in equipment and make proper adjustments.
  • Must possess knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions and the ability to exercise skill in the care and use of various tools, equipment and chemicals.
  • Must possess ability to utilize vehicles and various equipment such as a snow blower, tractor, hand tools, etc.
  • Must possess ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license and a willingness to travel to perform assignments, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provides maintenance, minor repair duties, and painting required on various buildings, furniture, vehicles, equipment, and grounds.
  • Maintains, repairs, and operates equipment and vehicles used for grounds and building maintenance, repairs, and construction.
  • Assists in landscape installations and building/furnishings construction and fabrication.
  • Mows and trims vegetation and removes fallen leaves.
  • Provides a safe environment for public park users.
  • Removes snow and ice from walks, driveways, parking areas and lanes.
  • Performs custodial duties at park restrooms, pavilions, and other buildings/grounds.
  • Supports Parks & Recreation programs and special events by providing custodial support as needed, and working a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, as necessary.
  • Assists with setting up and cleaning for special events and programs.
  • Performs errands as needed.
  • Attends in-service training, as directed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
