About The Position

The Team Lead – Grounds Maintenance position provides hands-on leadership and operational support for the maintenance of City-owned public buildings, grounds, and facilities. This role is responsible for leading daily work activities, supporting staff performance, and ensuring assigned tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to City standards. The position requires flexible scheduling to meet seasonal and departmental needs and may require weekend and holiday work during peak seasons.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Prior experience in grounds maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience leading or guiding others is preferred.
  • Ability to lead by example and provide clear direction to team members.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to give instructions and feedback.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing work demands.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Requires significant physical activity including lifting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
  • Requires frequent use of upper body and back strength.
  • Body agility and balance are essential.
  • Vision requirements (with or without correction): clear vision at arm’s length and distances up to 100 feet, with strong depth perception and peripheral awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist a small crew in daily grounds maintenance and facility support activities.
  • Assign tasks, provide direction, and monitor work to ensure quality, safety, and productivity standards are met.
  • Operate power and hand tools including weed eaters, edgers, blowers, and other grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Assist with routine maintenance of City grounds, landscaping, and public facilities.
  • Serve as a point of contact between crew members and department leadership regarding daily operations, needs, and issues.
  • Model safe work practices and ensure proper use of equipment and personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain assigned equipment and tools in safe working condition.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Crew Leader and/or Public Buildings & Grounds Department Head.
