About The Position

Performs highly advanced parole administration and supervision work. Work involves reviewing and approving parole supervision activities, parole investigations, and parole release plans and reports; coordinating case assignments; conducting case analyses; and planning, assigning, and supervising the work of others. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE). Major course work in Criminal Justice, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education, or a related field preferred. Each year of experience as described below in excess of the required seven years may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis with a maximum substitution of one year.
  • Seven years full-time, wage-earning criminal justice, case management, case processing, or military experience.
  • Two years full-time, wage-earning experience in the supervision of employees.
  • Must have a valid state driver license.
  • Must maintain valid license(s) for continued employment in position.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a certificate of course completion for the Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) policy and procedures training from the Texas Department of Public Safety within six months of employment date.
  • Must meet and maintain TLETS access eligibility for continued employment in position.
  • Knowledge of the principles of criminology and penology.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration and management, methods, techniques, and the practices of parole case management.
  • Knowledge of the psychological concepts of behavior, social adjustment, and emotional stability.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes.
  • Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
  • Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
  • Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill to review technical data and prepare technical reports.
  • Skill in administrative problem-solving techniques.
  • Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand-alone or local area network environment.
  • Skill to establish program goals and objectives.
  • Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
  • Skill in public address.
  • Skill to develop and evaluate administrative policies and procedures.

  • Skill to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates activities of the Warrants Section; establishes program goals and objectives; develops and implements program guidelines, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations; and ensures compliance with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Develops and implements effective techniques for evaluating program operations and services; oversees special investigations, program analyses, and research studies; directs the preparation of training and operational manuals, educational materials, and information programs; and recommends changes to produce a more effective program.
  • Prepares and evaluates program budget requests and monitors expenditures; and oversees the preparation of program management and productivity reports and specialized research projects.
  • Provides liaison to other departments of the agency, local, state, and federal agencies, and the public; provides technical assistance on program services; and provides guidance to program staff in resolving operational problems and improving program effectiveness.
  • Performs criminal information searches and retrieval using Texas Department of Public Safety criminal history system access.
  • Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of others.
  • Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
