About The Position

This position is responsible for the performance of skilled manual labor, including the care and maintenance of ballparks and other recreational facilities operated by the city; primary responsibility is for ballpark maintenance, may assist others with projects as needed.

Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Some knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
At least one (1) year of experience performing manual labor or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work.
Job duties require the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the public.
Job duties require the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Job duties require the ability to utilize common sense understanding to carry out written, oral or diagrammed instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving several known variables in situations of a routine nature.
Must possess a valid Arkansas Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
Must maintain an acceptable driving record.
Maintain First Aid / CPR / AED Certifications.

Responsibilities

Constructs, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on Parks and Recreation Department equipment, buildings and structures including fences, gates, and bleachers.
Performs landscaping maintenance duties such as moving and spreading dirt, sodding bare areas, and cutting and removing trees.
Prepares and maintains baseball / softball / soccer fields for play.
Marks fields to specifications of the leagues.
Responsible for litter removal and janitorial duties within park grounds, parking lots, and inside park facilities.
Repairs and replaces benches and signs in the parks.
Mixes and applies chemical agents, including fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides.
Operates tractor mounted mowing equipment to cut grass and other hand and power tools such as push mower, edger, line trimmer, blowers, etc., to perform lawn and grounds maintenance duties.
Operates trucks and trailers to move equipment and materials from site to site to perform duties.
Performs minor repair on equipment, such as replacing blades, belts, and filters.
Installs and maintains park and playground equipment.
Repairs, cleans and installs equipment at special events, such as tents and stages and at seasonal use facilities and structures.
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
