About The Position

The Head Lifeguard is responsible for overseeing daily lifeguard operations and ensuring the highest level of safety, professionalism, and customer service at the aquatic facility. This position provides direct supervision to lifeguards and senior lifeguards, leads training and emergency preparedness, and serves as the primary on-site authority during assigned shifts.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience as a lifeguard or event experience.
  • Advance knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • Leadership qualities and public relations skills.
  • Must have an American Red Cross Lifeguard and WSI Instructor certifications.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing to work holidays, weekends, and flexible schedule.

Nice To Haves

  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification
  • Pool Operator Certification (CPO or equivalent)
  • Experience with staff scheduling and performance management.
  • Bilingual skills

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily lifeguard operations and ensure adequate staffing and coverage.
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate lifeguards and senior lifeguards.
  • Perform all lifeguard duties, including surveillance, rescues, and emergency response.
  • In consultation with Aquatics Supervisor, serve as the lead decision-maker during emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Coordinate staff schedules, rotations, breaks, and shift coverage.
  • Lead in-service trainings, safety drills, and staff meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, certifications, and. facility policies.
  • Review, complete, and submit incident, accident, and disciplinary reports.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training of lifeguard staff.
  • Address patron concerns and resolve conflicts professionally.
  • Communicate regularly with the Aquatics Supervisor regarding operations, staffing, and safety issues.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.
