About The Position

Under the supervision of the Day Camp Manager, the Day Camp Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing day camp programming. Responsible for maintaining academics, enrichment, recreation and operation of Blue Springs Summer Day Camp. The above duties and responsibilities include those tasks, physical and mental requirements, visual requirement, unique physical surroundings and mental/cognitive abilities required to perform the essential elements of the position. Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication
  • Skill in fostering positive, healthy relationships with children or youth
  • Skill in implementing program of activities
  • Skill in preventing accidents and reacting professionally during emergencies.
  • Ability to organize, plan, and direct the work of subordinate staff
  • Ability to work well with patrons of all ages
  • Ability to concentrate and accomplish tasks despite interruptions and perform a variety of tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear frequently
  • Must be able to frequently use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or office machines
  • Must be able to frequently reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to occasionally life, move, push, pull, or transport up to 50 pounds at least 25 feet
  • Must have close vision and the ability to adjust focus frequently.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, AED and first aid certification preferred or ability to obtain before the start of camp.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with youth preferred.
  • Previous experience in supervising staff and evaluating performance.
  • Previous camp experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a high level of communication and positive relationships with Blue Springs Parks & Recreation(BSP&R) leadership and staff and day camp staff
  • Assist in supervision and training of staff through orientation, on-going training and regular meetings. Help coordinate and assure accuracy of day camp staff time sheets
  • Develop and maintain positive parent communication, relationships and services. Communicate with parents/guardians regarding camper progress and performance. Respond promptly and courteously to parent concerns
  • Meet regularly with your supervisor to help develop and maintain a schedule of academic, recreation, and enrichment activities.
  • Maintain high visibility at the day camp site. Help manage day-to-day operations of the program. Maintain a variety of records (e.g. accident and incident reports, checklists, financial records, etc.) and submit these to your supervisor
  • Assure program spaces that are utilized are well maintained and left in clean and safe condition.
  • Be familiar with and have the ability to conduct the program site’s emergency action procedures.
  • Obey and comply with all City of Blue Springs, Blue Springs Parks and Recreation, Program Site, State and Local ordinances and policies
