About The Position

CITY OF PARAGOULD PART-TIME PARKS MAINTENANCE The City of Paragould is currently accepting applications for Parks Maintenance position. This is a part-time, non-exempt position. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION Constructs, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on Parks and Recreation Department equipment, buildings and structures. Performs grounds maintenance and custodial activities at City Parks.

Some knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance.
Ability to lift heavy objects, and perform manual labor for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
Ability to perform minor maintenance on parks equipment, building and structures.
Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
At least one (1) year of experience performing manual labor; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work.

Responsibilities

Performs carpentry, plumbing and other semiskilled labor in repairing, constructing and maintaining buildings and equipment at Parks and Recreation facilities.
Responsible for securing park restrooms and buildings and perform maintenance checks at night and on weekends.
Check for safety hazards, vandalism, or maintenance issues and reports concerns to supervisor.
Installs, repairs, and replaces roofing, floor covering, base boards and laminated cabinet covering; prepares surfaces and applies plaster, paint or other protective coverings.
Prepares and maintains ball fields for play by adding and leveling soil, dragging infields, setting bases and plates, and maintaining turf.
Sweeps, rakes, and picks up debris within park grounds and parking lots.
Empties trash barrels located on park grounds, parking lots, and inside center.
Repairs and replaces benches and signs in the parks.
Performs landscaping duties such as moving and spreading dirt, sodding bare areas, and cutting and removing trees.
Mixes and applies chemical agents, including fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides.
Prepares and maintains soccer fields by adding and leveling soil, marking field lines, setting goal posts, and maintaining turf.
Operates tractor mounted mowing equipment to cut grass and other hand and power tools such as push mower, edger, line trimmer, blowers, etc., to perform lawn and grounds maintenance duties.
Checks fuel, oil and other fluids before operating equipment.
Trims, cuts and moves shrubs and other plants as needed.
Performs minor repair on equipment, such as replacing blades, belts, and filters.
Cleans grounds, building and rest rooms in parks and replenishes supplies.
Builds and repairs park equipment, such as picnic tables, pavilions, etc.
Performs minor maintenance such as changing light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and filters; notifies supervisor of problems requiring major repairs or maintenance.
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
