About The Position

Under general supervision of the Parks Maintenance Supervisor, the Parks Maintenance Technician performs maintenance, repair, grounds keeping, and operations support for Plamann Park and other County park sites, facilities, grounds, access areas, sports fields, and related equipment and areas. Hours; This is primarily 2nd Shift hours but vary based on seasons and workload. Must be flexible with hours, holidays and weekends. Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalency. Coursework in natural resources, outdoor recreation, or related course is preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of related parks, grounds, facilities, or basic maintenance experience; OR a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Must be at least 18 years old or older.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds; occasionally move heavier items with team assistance or mechanical aids.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, and handling tools/materials throughout the shift.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills to interact with coworkers, park users, vendors, and the public.
  • Sound judgment, problem-solving, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of basic grounds keeping, horticulture, trail care, and facility cleaning practices.
  • Skill in performing minor maintenance on grounds equipment, buildings, and fixtures; ability to identify when licensed repair is required.
  • Visual and auditory ability to safely operate tools/equipment and to recognize safety warnings and alarms.
  • Ability to operate foot and hand controls on tools/equipment.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and other basic math skills
  • Demonstrated ability to comply and perform safety at all times.
  • Tolerance for outdoor conditions the majority of the time (generally 75-90% of work hours), including heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, sun exposure, pollen, dust, and uneven terrain.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as tasks require.
  • Occasional climbing (ladders, steps, uneven terrain) and work at varying heights with fall protection as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with equipment such as: Zero turn lawn mowers, tractors, or skid steer is preferred but not required.
  • Coursework in natural resources, outdoor recreation, or related course is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Opens reserved facilities; completes setup, takedown, and cleaning as needed; supports alcohol permit procedures; and closes and secures buildings as assigned.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on park facilities, grounds, and assets utilizing a variety of equipment safely.
  • Maintain landscaped and natural areas to appropriate standards year-round.
  • Support seasonal operations, including trail and recreation area upkeep.
  • Keep park areas clean, safe, and accessible for public use.
  • Construct, install, and maintain basic site amenities and fixtures.
  • Operate and care for vehicles, tools, and equipment used in park maintenance.
  • Follow safety procedures, use required PPE, and report hazards or damage.
  • Provide courteous assistance to park visitors and support events or projects as assigned.
  • Complete basic records and work orders; perform related duties to support park operations.
  • Occasionally assist in Children's Farm upkeep, animal care, and maintenance during the summer.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance and scheduling flexibility to meet operational needs, including overtime and work on some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
