Austin Community Court is a problem-solving court established in 1999 and was the first community court in Texas and the seventh in the United States. The mission of Austin Community Court is to empower people to thrive by providing impartial justice and compassionate community-based services. Purpose: Under general supervision, leads a crew that performs specialized maintenance, construction, and/or grounds keeping tasks in and around City parks grounds and recreational facilities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus three (3) years of experience related to grounds keeping or general labor services, including at least one (1) year of crew experience.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years.
  • If assigned to operate vehicles, must possess the appropriate Texas Driver's License for those vehicles.
  • Certification/License may be required by trade or specialization.
  • Must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check to be hired and maintain CJIS eligibility.
  • External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience driving, and reversing, a heavy-duty truck while pulling a 24' trailer for 90% of the workday.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to work with technology in the field, including, but not limited to iPads, maps, other navigation tools, and Microsoft Power Apps.
  • Experience working with basic grounds keeping equipment, including riding mowers.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns, directs, and performs grounds maintenance tasks.
  • Assigns, directs, and performs minor and major repairs.
  • Maintains and repairs rockwork, concrete.
  • Operates department equipment.
  • Operates hand tools.
  • Operates power tools.
  • Assembles and dismantles portable stages and seating arrangements.
  • Drives and operates vehicles.
  • Assists supervisor with the development of work schedules and plans work activities.
  • Assists the public with questions/concerns.
  • May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.
  • Fills in for supervisor in his or her absence.
