About The Position

To provide customer service for parking patrons; provide security/safety functions; patrol lots and garages and enforce parking rules and regulations; perform leadwork responsibilities and supervise Parking Specialists in the absence of the supervisor; ensure parking fees are collected and parking rules and regulations are adhered to; provide routine maintenance on meters and signs; perform related work. Boise State University’s Department of Public Safety is responsible for more than ”people safety.” In addition to university Security, our team includes the university's Emergency Management Department, Transportation (Shuttle buses and the Cycle Learning Center) and Parking, and Integrated Security Technology. Requirements

  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote safety and security operations.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices.
  • Ability to be a team player with a positive and education-focused outlook.
  • Willingness to: stand and walk continuously throughout an eight-hour shift; bend, stoop, lift, and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds; work outdoors in all weather conditions; visually observe activities in an assigned area; use a two-way radio to communicate information.
  • Experience: providing public service in a work setting; dealing with difficult customers; ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations.
  • Some knowledge of supervisory practices.
  • A valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • This position serves as a lead worker for Parking Specialists. Position may require overtime and split-shift work and may require duties.
  • Makes staff assignments and resolves problems associated with those assignments; explains priorities for completion of projects; schedules jobs to be accomplished; trains staff; reviews work to ensure compliance; advises on performance evaluations; keeps records of employee hours worked.
  • Provides public service by explaining parking policies and answering questions from students, staff and public; provides general campus and directional information, and alternate parking options; handles irate/angry customers and resolves initial complaints; provides security/safety functions.
  • Issues parking permits; operates electronic cash registers; calculates and collects/accepts parking fees; verifies parking permits, ownership, and registration of vehicles; issues tickets and warnings to violators; operates a computerized ticketing system; controls access to parking lots; monitors parking lots to ensure parking regulations are met; operates two-way portable radio; checks tow list and lost/stolen permit list to determine violations; maintains daily records and prepares work activity reports; directs traffic as necessary; may assist in office support functions.
  • Assists maintenance staff in all aspects of parking lot and equipment maintenance: installing/removing meters, signs, and sign poles using hand and power tools; digging post holes and pouring concrete; striping and painting lots; collects money from parking meters; provides minor maintenance; inventories parking spaces, signs, poles and miscellaneous equipment; reports maintenance needs; sweeps parking lots.
  • High level escalation and face-to-face patron engagement.
  • Mark tires of parked vehicles with chalk and record the time of marking, and return at regular intervals to ensure that parking time limits are not exceeded.
  • Assists in Abandoned Bike Clean-up and Impoundment.
  • Assist motorists needing help with problems, such as keys locked in cars or dead batteries.
  • May perform other duties as needed.
