About The Position

Park Services Specialist (37020703) State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection ANTICIPATED VACANCY Pool Requisition This position is located in Mayo, FL Position Overview and Responsibilities: “Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.” Oversee and participates in all aspects of park operations. Responsible for implementation of resource management projects. Observes, maintains and protects the natural, cultural, historic and archaeological resources of the park. Participates in prescribed burning and related activities. Participates in vegetation and wildlife management plans; maintains optimum species control via natural and chemical means. Implement site restoration projects. Participate in water resources management plans. Collects and records resource management data. Constructs, cleans, maintains, and repairs park grounds, facilities and equipment utilizing appropriate tools and equipment. Make routine inspections to ensure proper maintenance standards are met. Plans projects, assigns work and oversees volunteers and OPS. Meets visitors, answers questions, provides information and directions and explains facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education. Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. Plans, organizes and conducts community outreach activities, special events and festivals to expand public understanding of the Florida Park Service and the park’s management objectives. Represents the park and the Florida Park Service to outside agencies and organizations, disseminating information and promoting all opportunities provided by the park. Provides natural and cultural history interpretive programs and unit specific services as directed. Designs and implements public marketing relation programs to encourage corporate/foundation and private support of the park. Research and identify available public and private partnership programs having the potential benefit for park operations. Prepares forms and administrative reports on a wide range of subjects. Conducts purchasing and fiscal activities in compliance with established procedures. Collects fees, performs cash register transactions and reconciles receipts. Answers correspondence and maintains park files. Plans and coordinates the park's volunteer and manpower augmentation program. Monitors and defines suitable park volunteer needs and coordinates volunteer placement. Plans and oversees all volunteer schedules. Tracks volunteer hours and prepare appropriate reports. Plans and conducts volunteer meetings, volunteer orientation and training sessions. Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • KNOWLEDGE OF: General methods and techniques used in the repair and/or maintenance of park facilities, equipment and grounds
  • Basic math computations
  • SKILLS IN: Using a variety of hand and power tools and equipment
  • Maintenance of facilities and grounds
  • The operation and use of various kinds of equipment including pumper-trucks, tractors and boats
  • ABILITY TO: Oversee volunteers
