About The Position

As a permanent Park Ranger 2, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our parks safe, functional, and welcoming. Your work will span a variety of responsibilities, including maintaining and repairing park buildings, facilities, and utility systems; constructing and restoring trails, footbridges, and signage; and ensuring water and wastewater systems operate smoothly. You’ll lead and guide teams on work procedures, keep maintenance areas organized and safe, and track operational activities electronically. In addition, you’ll support landscaping and custodial upkeep, provide exceptional visitor services, enforce park rules, and contribute to resource conservation. Every day, you’ll help preserve the beauty of our parks while delivering outstanding experiences for visitors.

Requirements

  • Four years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping)
  • Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies AND 1 year of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping)
  • Associate's degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies AND 2.5 years of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping)
  • To be hired, a criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment while also maintaining a valid driver’s license.
  • Must wear OPRD supplied uniform and comply with appearance code while on duty.
  • Obtain and maintain one or more of the following after appointment: First Aid/CPR Certification Enforcement Officer Status Oregon Water Treatment and Distribution Certificate Oregon Wastewater Treatment and Collection Certificate

Nice To Haves

  • Three or more years of work experience maintaining facilities, grounds, and utility systems.
  • Experience performing plumbing, carpentry, and small equipment repair, including the safe and effective use of hand and motorized tools for maintenance and construction tasks.
  • Skill in crew leadership.
  • Knowledge of rule advisory and enforcement in a recreational setting.
  • Knowledge in diagnosing maintenance and operation problems, breakdowns, and disruptions, and in initiating and carrying out solutions.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with diverse staff and user groups.
