About The Position

Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation is an accredited, gold medal award-winning agency with over 45 full-time professionals and over 300 seasonal and part-time staff who provide the Lee's Summit community with dozens of quality recreational opportunities. The Park Operations Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance of all Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation parks and facilities including, but not limited to, the landscaping and care of turf, trees, shrubs, and irrigation systems. This excludes the turf at the ball fields at Legacy Park. This position is also responsible for developing and implementing a park and trail inspection plan and schedule. Job Scope: The position will assist in budget preparation, bid and purchase materials, directly supervise and participate in the performance evaluation process for full and part-time personnel involved in the work and maintenance of the parks and facilities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with specialization in turf and athletic field maintenance, horticulture or related field required; at the discretion of the Department, directly related work experience may be substituted for education at the rate of three (3) years directly related work experience per one year of education
  • Minimum three (3) years’ direct experience in park maintenance required
  • Valid State driver’s license required
  • Certified Playground Safety Inspector required
  • Basic first aid, AED and CPR certification required within three (3) months of hire

Responsibilities

  • Directs, oversees, and performs landscaping and maintenance of grounds and facilities, including, but not limited to installation, maintenance and upkeep, structure maintenance, playground repairs; effectively disseminates workload to staff.
  • Develops, oversees and implements park maintenance plans and schedules.
  • Develops and oversees trail and playground inspection plans and schedules.
  • Maintains department equipment and inventory with necessary records.
  • Maintains section inventory and purchases and procures supplies as needed.
  • Operates maintenance and construction equipment.
  • Assists in the bidding of equipment and materials for the division.
  • Supervises and directs work of staff assigned to maintenance of parks and facilities and ensures quality control, communicating with upper management when needed.
  • Develop and administer performance evaluations to direct reporting staff.
  • Supports other Divisions in coordinating direct reports and assisting in preparation, set up, execution and cleanup of special events and activities.
  • Ensures the enforcement of park and recreation rules and regulations.
  • Prepares written reports and provides presentations as needed.
  • Conducts periodic inspections of parks and facilities and plans for repairs, maintenance, or other improvements as necessary.
  • Assists in budget preparation for operations division as assigned.
  • Assists in the bidding of equipment and materials for the division and coordinates with contractors.
  • Performs project tracking functions as assigned.
  • Participates in professional organizations.
  • Contacts patrons and resolves issues.
  • May assist with Cemetery operations as assigned.
  • Attends Park Board meetings and other committee or staff meetings as required.
  • Serves as a member of the Park Visit Team as assigned.
  • Serves as a staff member for special events as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
