About The Position

The Park Assistant Manager roles provide leadership and support to park staff. They supervise, assign, review and participate in the work of staff responsible for developing and implementing standards and training for safety and customer service, and will provide policy input for safety, customer service, public park operations and park staffing for the public use of the various areas of the facility. The position conducts and/or may assist in performance evaluation reviews, hiring, and all associated administrative duties relating to assigned staff.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Outdoor recreation and park management, complex safety, security, sanitation, operation-maintenance, and public relations procedures and practices. Park safety and education information. Security matters, state laws, department policies, facility operational standards, and emergency response procedures. Facility procedures. Supervisory skills relevant to supervising employees and volunteers and special assignment personnel. A business acumen incorporating revenue tracking and budgets, Employee Public Health and Public Relation tasks. Knowledge of fees and revenue functions, general office procedures and outdoor parks and recreation. May require knowledge of Arizona Revised Statutes and law enforcement techniques.

  • Must obtain and / or possess an AZ driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in an outdoor recreation or hospitality based operation with time as a lead or supervisor, POS and/or reservation system knowledge, cash handling background, demonstrated experience and business acumen in a fast-paced work environment. Any combination of training and experience that meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs); typical ways KSAs are obtained may include but are not limited to: relevant degree from an accredited college or university, coursework and work experience relevant to assignment

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision for the daily Contact Station operations and/ or Maintenance Staff as needed. Resolve staff and customer issues, coordinate any emergency or first responder efforts and report to the Park Manager regarding all functions and activities on the park. Business operation responsibilities include inventories, reservation system training and troubleshooting, Commercial Pass program lead, special use permits for weddings, fishing tournament and similar, retail and staff uniforms. Coordinate and perform tasks related to financial reporting, cash handling and POS system. Maintenance Staff operation responsibilities include project coordination, assigning work/ repair tasks to appropriate field Rangers,Scheduling Preventative Maintenance Programs and Annual Certifications, use of Arizona Procurement Portal for parts, repairs and services.
  • Provide guidance in handling complex customer issues and/or resolving escalated customer complaints or disputes. Serve as the designated representative of the park to patrons, businesses and local audiences.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of appointed staff. Assist in administrative and supervisory responsibilities including hiring, disciplinary actions, staff scheduling, directing the agenda for staff meetings, performance reviews, one-on-ones, and AMS related improvement and reporting activities. Ensure that staff support materials such as handbooks, policy manuals and checklists are current and updated as needed.
  • Coordinate with Park Manager to balance daily staffing allocation to accommodate facility wide needs across a spectrum of tasks including cash handling, staff and volunteer supervision, customer service, janitorial, landscaping, building and equipment maintenance.
