About The Position

Dauphin County Parks & Recreation is currently accepting applications for the position of Fort Hunter Park Manager. The overall objective of the employee in this position is to direct and administer the operation, maintenance, and strategic coordination of Fort Hunter Park and Fort Hunter Conservancy, including buildings, grounds, collections, staff, volunteers, and key partner organizations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum Four (4) years’ experience at similar institution.
  • Must be able to speak and understand the English language in order to carry out essential job functions.
  • Must possess excellent communication and interpretive skills.
  • Must possess initiative and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess the ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with coworkers, staff and volunteers.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license and a willingness to travel, as needed, to carry out essential job duties.
  • Must possess knowledge of principles and practices of museum/nature center planning and administration.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess knowledge of basic principles of retail management and marketing.
  • Must possess skill in organizing and overseeing a small staff of employees and volunteers.
  • Must possess basic knowledge of proper curatorial methods of collections.
  • Must possess knowledge of local, regional educational and community-based organizations.
  • Must possess skill in research.
  • Must possess knowledge in principles and practices of supervision and the ability to apply it to job duties and staff.
  • Must possess the ability to plan, direct and coordinate work of the park and its staff.
  • Must possess the ability to maintain required records and prepare reports, as needed.
  • Must possess the ability to responsibly handle sums of cash and checks, make deposits and disbursements and handle associated bookkeeping.
  • Must possess ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, governmental officials, staff and others to promote public relations.
  • Must possess knowledge of basic first aid and CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Administers the day-to-day operations of park and collections.
  • Supervises the park staff and handles any related personnel issues.
  • Works with Director to formulate Fort Hunter Park and Fort Hunter Conservancy goals, policies, programs, procedures, and planning instruments.
  • Develops liaisons with local and regional educational institutions.
  • Works with staff to plan the mounting, narrating and execution of exhibits.
  • Develops outside sources of income including grants.
  • Leads in oversight of educational programs.
  • Serves as the Primary Liaison to the Friends of Fort Hunter and the Fort Hunter Board of Trustees, facilitating coordination, communication, and alignment with County policies and priorities in a non-governing, non-voting capacity, attending meetings and participating in events.
  • Directs Mansion Manager with operating, stocking, and staffing Museum shop, and establishing and maintaining associated financial records; assembles and conveys cash deposits.
  • Performs monthly accounting, reports, and deposits of income.
  • Interviews candidates for employment, orients new hires and counsels' incumbents, as necessary.
  • Assists Director in preparation of annual budget, communicates park needs to Friends of Fort Hunter and Board of Trustees for Fort Hunter for annual budget development.
  • Schedules and sites regular and special programs, negotiates rental of park spaces establishing allowable uses and fees.
  • Disseminates policies governing uses of park.
  • Assigns performance of routine cleaning and ordering of building spaces.
  • Organizes and edits public relations materials including park website and park signage.
  • Composes informational and developmental brochures for the park.
  • Works the Friends of Fort Hunter to produce, edit, and publish the Friends Quarterly Newsletter; Retains final editing responsibilities.
  • Works a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, as necessary.
  • Works with the Operations & Maintenance Manager, Director, Friends of Fort Hunter, and Board of Trustees for Fort Hunter (where applicable) to manage park building structures and natural resources.
  • Assist in planning, funding for, and accessing future planning, construction, renovation, and maintenance projects.
  • Attends meetings, training, and in-services as required.
  • Operates Park equipment and vehicles as needed to perform job.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
