The Parent Support Specialist will have a working understanding of the dynamics and needs of families with SED children or adolescents. Preference will be given to individuals who have experience caring for children, adolescents or family members with SED and/or other disabilities. Experience in providing direct service is preferred. The Parent Support Specialist will provide education, support and training for families of children in Community Based services so that they are able to make educated choices about their children's mental health treatment and education. They will enhance services to families. They shall encourage families to obtain broad based knowledge and information, and to engage in networking with other parents and mental health providers. Must self-identify as a person with lived experience in raising a child with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED), SUD, or co-occurring mental health diagnosis.
