About The Position

W orking alongside at-risk families, you will strengthen parenting skills with the goal of keeping families together. The Parent Support and Prevention Specialist provides assistance to biological and relative/kinship families deemed at-risk of having their children enter foster care. Parent Support and Prevention Specialists provide flexible and responsive services to families based on individual need s including but not limited to accessing health care and legal services, support groups, advocacy, parent curriculum tra ining for the purpose of strengthening the family while promoting stability for the children in their care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work (preferred) or in re lated human services field .
  • Experience preferred.
  • Experience working with marginalized communities with an understanding of the barriers that impact underserved communities.
  • Quickly establish rapport and build trust .
  • Collaborate and advocate for positive outcomes, using interpersonal skills in multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic professional teams.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and demonstrated skill to write clearly and effectively.
  • Adaptable and proactive self-starter who effectively multitasks while maintaining strong attention to detail and organization to meet all objectives and deadlines.
  • Model ethical and professional behaviors at all times .
  • Maintain flexibility in work schedule , including availability for evenings and weekends as needed .
  • Travel required within surrounding counties with or without accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and manage referrals from leadership for caregivers in the community, delivering timely assistance to support effective care for children within program guidelines.
  • Prioritize and m anag e multiple cases simultaneously and m aintain frequent , open communication with direct supervisor .
  • Provide caregivers with inf ormation , referrals, community resources to improve caregiver access to family resources such as basic need items, money to pay for bills, tutoring resources, recreational activities, scholarships, etc.
  • Guide caregivers in identifying , applying for, and securing eligible benefits, ensuring timely connection to appropriate resources .
  • Schedule home visits, c omplete caregiver assessments , and deliver parenting curriculum modules while ensuring compliance with program guidelines.
  • Create a p lan , in partnership , with caregivers to meet identified needs.
  • Enhance caregivers’ social support systems ( i.e. professional agencies, support groups, parent groups, professional helpers, extended family, etc.).
  • Collect and record all data to complete and maintain up-to-date documentation of clients within program guidelines in FAC c lient database system.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and community partners to create strong partnerships to enable a continual flow of regularly received referrals.
  • Participate in outreach efforts as assigned.
  • Attend community meetings as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing meetings/professional memberships and trainings as required by the Program Manager.
  • Actively contribute both independently and as part of a team; p articipate in team meetings and collaborate with colleagues across departments.
