About The Position

Position Purpose: The Parent Educator will implement child abuse prevention services. Under the direction of the Home Visitation Manager, the Parent Educator will assist in the planning, organization, development, and implementation of public awareness campaigns, education, and training efforts relating to child abuse prevention and other issues related to children; and organize, coordinate, and oversee direct services for families focusing on the prevention of family violence.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field is preferred.
  • One year of experience working within the family services sector.
  • Experience in preparing and managing in-person and virtual training modalities and meetings
  • Ability to work some evenings throughout each month.
  • Outstanding organizational abilities and must be able to prioritize.
  • Productive and effective time management, flexibility in responding to a variety of work tasks.
  • Ability to support multiple staff members working in different locations effectively.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand federal documents.
  • Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries with families.
  • Proficiency with computers and programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the Internet.
  • Valid Driver’s License and Insurance.
  • The Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma operates a drug-free workplace.
  • Must submit to and pass applicable drug test, TB test, and Physical.
  • Must pass background investigations for suitability of character identified in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, and Child Care and Development Fund, 45 C.F.R. § 98.43(a)(2)
  • Position involves prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, or bending, lifting, or carrying up to 30 pounds daily. Work is generally performed in an office environment with varying levels of lighting, air quality, noise, and/or temperature.

Responsibilities

  • Provide parent education and support to families by conducting home visits and delivering evidence-based lessons on child development, positive discipline, communication, and managing behavioral issues.
  • Prepare, plan, and coordinate child abuse prevention home visits and group meetings to support parents in their parenting journey.
  • Assess family’s needs and provide developmentally appropriate information, guidance, and support to parents.
  • Conduct all required screenings under program guidelines and fidelity requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with families, educators, and community partners to support children and families.
  • In conjunction with the Peoria Tribe Culture Department, ensure equal implementation of traditional cultural practices integrated within the child abuse prevention meetings, creating a cohesive dynamic of child abuse prevention through a strengthening of cultural traditions.
