About The Position

The Paraprofessional assists teachers with both teaching-related activities and non-teaching assignments. This role involves supporting classroom management, providing instructional assistance, and participating in various school activities under the direct supervision of teachers and the school principal. The position is for a term of nine or ten months, consistent with the school year.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet one of the following eligibility requirements: Associate degree; At least 48 college credit hours; OR Pass the Para-Pro Assessment.
  • Understands the principles of child growth and development.

Responsibilities

  • Report to work as assigned by the principal.
  • Work with assigned teachers according to their plans and under direct supervision of the teacher(s).
  • Assist with classroom management, including reading instructions to pupils, supervising lessons, reading stories, listening to oral reading, checking seat work, and relieving teachers for conferences or emergencies.
  • Assist with classroom instructions, including helping children who have been absent, supervising individualized programs, and dictating directions such as spelling.
  • Assist in the treatment prescribed by teachers by working on a one-to-one basis with children, working with groups of children, and assisting teachers with responsibilities as they work with activities.
  • Be involved in activities such as checking objective tests.
  • Study and become familiar with all materials to be used in activities to ensure their effective use.
  • Learn the use and care of audio-visual equipment and materials.
  • Reproduce materials provided by teacher coordinators and supervisors for the use of activities.
  • Organize and file all pertinent materials according to skills.
  • Assist with routine classroom behavior but are not to be responsible for discipline of students.
  • Perform duties assigned for the supervision of children outside the classroom (e.g., hall, breakfast, bus) under the direction of a teacher or professional staff member.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by evaluator.
