Paraprofessionals within the Abington Public Schools work closely with general education and special education teachers in order to meet the needs of all students in a grade or classroom. The responsibilities of Paraprofessionals may vary between grade and school building, due to differences in students' developmental levels. The most common responsibilities of a Paraprofessional include the following: Supporting a teacher's daily instructional plan and implementing differentiated instruction and clarification, as needed. Working with small groups of students or one to one with a single student. Supporting the classroom teacher in responding to students' behavioral, physical, and academic needs. Maintaining active awareness of students' IEP and 504 arrangements and the educational impact of their disabilities. Implementing accommodations and modifications to Special Education students on an as needed basis. Communicating and gathering information about student progress to general and special education staff, so that teachers may use this information to guide instruction and liaisons may use this information to track progress and adjust service arrangements. Supporting daily, building-based operations as assigned by the principal.
