About The Position

The Paraprofessional for The Academy at Tommy Nobis Center will be an integral part of an accelerated vocational education, training, and employment to young adults with disabilities who are transitioning out of High School and into the work environment. The Paraprofessional provides support to the Academy Instructor for delivering curriculum specific to Life Skills to support work independence, Social Skills for success, Vocational Skills, and the integration of Community-based works. The Paraprofessional for The Academy is a full-time position focused on year-round services.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma/GED Required.
  • Pursuing a degree and/or relevant experience.
  • Interest in vocational rehabilitation, teaching or delivering career/work readiness to individuals with disabilities.
  • Mission driven, guided by core values and a pleasure to work with.
  • High “customer service orientation and youth- focused.”
  • Excellent engagement and presentation skills.
  • Results oriented with ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Must be highly organized, accurate in completing work assignments.

  • Strong oral & written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with assigned duties.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of Windows environment in Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
  • General knowledge of other office equipment such as copiers, scanners, fax machine, etc.
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Strong written skills required to create and prepare professional quality documentation and to effectively communicate with a broad range of individuals.
  • Strong ability to review statistical information in order to create reports, show changes, validate any deficiencies, and to establish improvement goals.
  • Ability to communicate and present information informally and formally to candidates for employment, new hires, program participants, employees and other professional groups.
  • Ability to organize data and assigned work tasks for maximum effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of computers.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting the delivery of services for participants in The Academy, from start of cohort to exit.
  • Supports classroom instruction with a vocational skills curriculum (life skills, social skills, career exploration, job readiness, interview skills, etc.) to young adults transitioning out of High School and into the work environment.
  • Maintains effective control and management of classroom.
  • Works in collaboration with the Academy Instructor and Employment Specialists to ready participants to actualize their employment goals.
  • Assists the Employment Specialists in coordinating participants internship opportunities at community work sites.
  • Completes weekly and monthly status reports for participants as needed.
  • Tracks and collects performance metrics and outcomes.
  • Assist with the case management and individualized career goals for students, including documentation, data entry and file maintenance.
  • Assist with daily delivery of career readiness and educational workshops.
  • Assist in planning and running group activities for students.
  • Help identify local learning opportunities for students.
  • Provides daily oversite of morning drop off and afternoon pick-up to ensure the safety of all participants.
