About The Position

The Paraprofessional-Student Support works under the direction of the School Principal, Vice Principals, or their designees to support student wellness throughout school hallways, cafeteria, and other non-classroom spaces students use during the school day. Paraprofessional-Student Support work collaboratively with other school staff to ensure that Everett High School is a safe, supportive, and inclusive space for all members of our community as they transition between instructional classes, lunch, and other activities. Rather than employing punitive measures, the Paraprofessional-Student Support understands the importance of a safe and supportive school culture. They possess an infectious enthusiasm for supporting every high school student in maximizing their potential while utilizing a positive and supportive framework. The Paraprofessional-Student Support understands the importance of relationships in helping students achieve their goals and will act as role models for students throughout the school. The Paraprofessional-Student Support will observe students during transitions, lunches, and other unstructured settings, making themselves available to students who may be experiencing difficulties, and providing concrete support to address student needs.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, equivalent, or higher.
  • Experience living/working in multicultural settings/communities.
  • Experience working in an urban high school.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the Everett Public Schools.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking in another language in addition to English.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates regularly and effectively with students, building staff, and community members to support students’ goals at EHS.
  • Demonstrates an ability to understand and respond appropriately to students’ needs throughout the school day.
  • Develops and maintains positive, appropriate, and supportive relationships with students to better support them during times of difficulty or challenge.
  • Monitors hallways, the cafeteria, and other designated areas at the high school throughout the day as assigned.
  • Demonstrates strong judgment and decision-making skills when working with high school-age children, supporting their healthy and positive decision-making processes.
  • Believes in the value of education and works with all the students they encounter to define educational support at Everett High School.
  • Respond to students who require space and support outside of the learning environment.
  • Effectively de-escalate students by utilizing developed skills, such as co-regulation or TCIS principles.
  • Takes advantage of personal growth and professional development opportunities to support student services and development, including, but not limited to, Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) or Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Support (TCIS).
  • Exhibits a strong belief in the Everett Public Schools’ values of equity, justice, and inclusion.
  • Performs such other duties and assumes all other responsibilities assigned by the Principal or their designee.
