About The Position

Responsible for performing patient care under the direction of the charge nurse, registered nurse, or physician. This position provides general clinical, non-clinical, and clerical services to ensure the efficient functioning of the nursing unit. This role utilizes age-specific competencies in the care of all patient populations and adheres to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and accrediting bodies. Responsibilities for this role include performing patient care, providing clinical and clerical services, utilizing age-specific competencies, adhering to regulations, and participating in customer service initiatives. Additionally, this role actively participates in providing outstanding customer service and maintaining respectful relationships with all individuals.

Requirements

  • High School Grad or Equivalent
  • Completion of a paramedic program
  • Valid State Licensure as a Paramedic
  • One year healthcare, ED, or field experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course
  • AVADE Personal Safety Training Workplace Violence

Nice To Haves

  • Associates of Science (AS) degree
  • Monitor Tech cross-training
  • Critical Care Paramedic Program completion

Responsibilities

  • Attaches and completes 12 lead EKG tests before providing the strip to the physician on duty.
  • Initiates cardiac monitoring, detects dysrhythmias, and notifies the assigned nurse or charge nurse of abnormalities.
  • Performs venipuncture for testing and inserts peripheral IVs, hang IV fluid without medication, and maintains prescribed IV flow rates.
  • Observes and documents the condition of infusion sites and remove IV lines as directed by registered nurse.
  • Assists physician or registered nurse with procedures and exams.
  • Is a customer service champion as demonstrated by Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You (AIDET), keeping patients informed, providing information and updates to patients, apologizing for waits, demonstrating caring, compassion, and concern, demonstrating a sense of urgency, advocating for pain management, and ensuring that patients can get help at any time. Performs hourly rounding on patients to keep them informed and to ensure that the patients have call bells, pillows, blankets as needed, that care givers names are on the boards (applicable campuses), and that patient and family needs are exceeded.
