About The Position

The ED Paramedic will collect and convey information to both their team members and the attending Physician regarding the health status of patients. The Hospital Paramedic will perform all duties identified in their job description and validated by competency assessment under the License of the Physician Medical Director. They will report to the Nursing Director of Emergency Services. They will serve as a member of the Healthcare team through active communication; documentation; feedback and assistance as needed or requested. They will collaborate with the RN involved in the care of the patient. The Hospital Paramedic will provide for patient safety. Attend meetings and in-services as required by departmental policy. Contributes to the growth and development of self and department. Maintains an active involvement. Maintains good working relationship with patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers, and other hospital staff. Maintains competence with charting system. The ED Paramedic may not, under any circumstances, perform the prohibited functions listed below: Advanced airway practices (such as endotracheal intubation, needle decompression, tracheostomy, cricothyrotomy, ventilator management, etc.) Administration of IV Ketamine push Unsupervised cardioversion, defibrillation and/or external pacing Administration and management of IV titratable drips Discharge teaching ESI level assignment

Requirements

  • EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Less than 1 year OR 1 - 3 years
  • EDUCATION REQUIRED: Associates Degree from an accredited school for Paramedics OR Technical Training as EMT-Paramedic with Paramedic Certification
  • LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Texas Department of State Health Services Emergency medical Technician-Paramedic Certification Required Upon Hire
  • BLS required per St. David's policy. Required Upon Hire
  • ALS/ACLS required per St. David's/LPDSH policy Required within 6 months
  • PALS required per St. David's policy Required within 6 months

  • One (1) years field experience or in clinical setting preferred
