About The Position

This position is responsible for the daily supervision and training of all paralegals/legal assistants on the Election, Tax, Public Records, Appeals, and Regulatory Litigation teams in the Civil Services Division, including monitoring, directing, and delegating the workloads of paralegals/legal assistants. Specifically, this position has a primary focus on supervising paralegals/legal assistants in the delivery of services related to eDiscovery, public records requests, case management, and trial support.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal, or work involving legal procedures, terminology, or administration, which includes lead and/or supervisory experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public or business administration, or closely related field
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
  • Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire
  • NOTE: The Maricopa County Attorney's Office requires a thorough background check of all successful candidates and is authorized to test prospective employees for the presence of illegally accessed drugs. Testing is conducted once an offer has been extended and prior to placement.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate of completion from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved Legal Assistant or Paralegal studies program at an accredited school.
  • Experience in Civil practice legal setting and government service
  • Familiarity with the configuration and administration of legal technologies like preservation, eDiscovery, and Case Management solutions

Responsibilities

  • Perform full range of supervisory functions, including evaluations, timecard approval, delegating, directing, and monitoring workload
  • Provide on-going training and mentoring to paralegals and other support staff
  • Analyze practice group data and compile appropriate reports and statistics for Administration as requested
  • Evaluating business needs, make recommendations for process improvement and information flow, and, to the extent necessary, assist with the implementation of any such needs or processes
  • Assist in highly complex legal research
  • Drafting of initial pleadings, motions, briefs, memos, discovery, disclosure, and other legal memoranda
  • Providing case preparation and document management for individual cases and public records requests
  • Assisting attorneys with trial preparation and presentation of case at trial
  • Conducting interviews and fact-finding investigations
  • Collecting, reviewing, analyzing, and organizing documents and records obtained through the discovery process
  • Responsible for carrying a reduced caseload and performing daily paralegal functions
  • Assist with special projects as requested by division attorney management team
