Position Description This position will work within the Criminal Division of the Anoka County Attorney’s Office. We are looking to fill two openings, one is a new position for 2026 and the second is open due to a retirement. Our Paralegal II role is responsible for working with the division on speciality programs, such as pre-charge diversion, and providing trial support assistance in addition to legal research and case support services. This position is responsible for supporting attorneys by drafting documents, organizing files, calling on legal witnesses, providing organization and assistance at trial or other hearings, and maintaining a legal library. In addition, this role will be responsible for organization, reproduction, disclosure, and retention of both digital and non-digital media evidence—such as video, photo, and audio materials—used in court proceedings. The Paralegal II performs work under limited supervision. They possesses a comprehensive working knowledge of subject matter, consistently performs work at a higher level, handles highly complex issues and problems associated with legal support, and is expected to make higher level decisions. They may provide leadwork and mentoring to a subordinate group. This will require a high level of attention to detail, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and resolve digital issues so that evidence can be presented accurately and effectively in court. This role will partner with legal teams to develop and implement strategies on how to effectively present digital evidence for court proceedings. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Interviews will be held in person February 27th, 2026 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of experience at the Paralegal I level
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Business, Para-legal Studies or related field
  • Possess a Paralegal certificate from an ABA accredited program
  • Experience drafting, cite-checking, and correcting legal briefs
  • Experience managing medium to large-scale document productions
  • Knowledge and competency with case management software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience working with digital evidence management system such as Evidence.com, Axon Justice, Central Square DEMS, Relativity, or like software
  • Experience with editing, splicing, redacting electronic evidence
  • Experience preparing, managing, or organizing digital evidence for criminal trials or civil litigation

Responsibilities

  • Support attorneys with research for trial or due diligence.
  • Prepare legal documents, such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, wills, contracts, etc.
  • Research and analyze law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes.
  • Investigate facts and law of case to determine causes of action and to prepare case accordingly.
  • Act as a liaison among all parties including court or other neutrals for scheduling and sharing information.
  • Summarize depositions, trial transcripts and exhibits.
  • May handle a caseload overseen by an attorney.
  • Assist with preparation of cases for trial or other hearings.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group.

Benefits

  • Anoka County Salary Schedule, for Paralegal II, Grade 32: $31.00 to $43.38 per hour ($64,480 to $90,230.40 per year). Offer to be commensurate with experience.
