About The Position

Work involves performing paraprofessional tasks in support of classroom instruction, classroom activities and building activities. This role may involve limited instruction and supervision of students under the direction of a faculty member or Principal. Duties may also include clerical tasks and supervision of non-classroom areas such as the cafeteria, playground, and other campus areas. Assignments are received orally and/or in writing from faculty members and/or the Principal. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Completion of two years of study (48 credit hours) at an institution of higher education or possession of an associate’s degree, OR ability to pass a state-approved basic skills assessment (FPS will assist in administering the exam if college credits are not met).
  • Some experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Interest in young people and an ability to deal fairly and tactfully with students.
  • Possess a positive attitude toward education and a helpful attitude toward people.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to carry out assignments in effective support of the instructional program.
  • Skills in human relations.
  • Skills in written and oral communication.
  • Skills in working with adults and children.
  • Visual and auditory acuity.
  • Employment is subject to background check and work authorization.

  • First Aid/CPR certificate preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job.
  • Perform identified tasks, utilizing required knowledge, skills, and abilities, and execute identified work activities.
  • Adhere to the physical requirements outlined in the specific job description.
  • Assist with classroom preparation and clean up.
  • Attend to the physical needs of younger students and account for articles brought to school by children.
  • Assist faculty members with copying materials and organizing instructional materials.
  • Supervise students on school grounds, in the cafeteria, on the playground, and in other areas in and around the school building(s).
  • Maintain order among students.
  • Assist with the clean up of small spills and messes.
  • Perform related work as assigned.
