Full-Time Para-Educator Essential behaviors: Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected for classroom teachers Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned Is punctual and performs duties in assigned locations Knowledge in and follow through with classroom and district policies and procedures Accept all assigned tasks responsibly and carry out in a timely manner Other duties as assigned Assisting Students: Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by teacher Helps students master instructional objectives assigned by teacher Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up assigned by teacher Assist with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and story telling Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students Carry out adapted instruction according to the adaptation list provided or specific directions Monitor student performance as directed Re-teach/reinforce instructional concepts introduced by teacher to small groups or individual students Facilitate students' active participation in cooperative groups Other duties as assigned Supervision of Students: Demonstrate a concern for student safety and good supervisory judgment in variety of settings Assist assigned students on arrival or departure Assist assigned students during lunch Monitor students during hall passing time Escort assigned students during unstructured times Provide behavioral supports by circulating through the classroom Enforce class and school rules Other duties as assigned Assisting Teachers: Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher Discusses student progress with classroom teacher at the completion of the day's assigned lesson Exercise initiative and understand role expectations Observe and record various student needs (i.e. behavior, academics, etc.) Take attendance Make copies Help with other paperwork as assigned Collaborate with teacher on development and implementation of lessons and student behavior plans Other duties as assigned Experience preferred. Paraprofessional certification required. The stipend associated with this position will be according to the support personnel negotiated contract. The starting wage will be $18.24 or with PEL $18.74. Benefits will include sick time, personal time, IMRF retirement, health, dental & vision insurance.
