About The Position

Paraeducator III - Boeckman Creek Primary School This is a 7 hr/day, 5 day/week, 10 month position under the Classified Bargaining Unit for the 25-26 SY. Please note: All Paraeducators in the first year are temporary. DEFINITION Under the supervision of the Principal, in collaboration with Student Services, and the direction of a Licensed Teacher, the Paraeducator provides instruction, support and services for all students. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS An employee in this position is expected to help the teacher establish and maintain a climate of learning; work as part of a team; demonstrate initiative in responding to students’ day-to-day needs; and implement behavior, medical, and safety protocols for students when necessary. Protocols may involve physical intervention; therefore the employee’s physical characteristics should include the ability to bend, lift, and move quickly. Due to the interpersonal nature of working with students, a positive attitude and warm personality are considered essential characteristics of a paraeducator. We expect all of our employees to model a Growth Mindset and demonstrate a belief that all students can learn and all students belong as part of their classroom & school community. Additional pay is granted to those with a Bachelor’s Degree or degree from an accredited paraprofessional program. This is designated as Paraeducator-IIIA.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Instructional strategies to support a broad range of students, including students with disabilities.
  • Business English, spelling, punctuation and mathematics;
  • Current office practices, procedures, keyboarding and equipment;
  • Proficient use of computer technology.
  • Ability to: Promote independence in students;
  • Provide individual and small group instruction under the direction of the licensed teacher;
  • Establish and maintain harmonious relationships with students and fellow employees;
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions;
  • Maintain accurate records and collect data;
  • Implement behavior, medical, and safety protocols;
  • Appropriately respond to and direct students;
  • Maintain confidentiality in all phases of work, i.e. records, meetings, parent rights, etc.
  • Use computer technology proficiently;
  • Routinely lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance;
  • Complete all district required training.
  • Qualified applicant must have AA/AS degree, 72 credits, Paraeducator Program or equivalent exam, BA/BS degree, or MA/MS degree.

Responsibilities

  • Work individually and in small groups with students at all skill levels with the goal of fostering independence in the areas of academics, social skills, communication, behavior, and functional routines.
  • Collect and record data.
  • Prepare Instructional materials.
  • Support instruction and assessment of individual students and small groups.
  • Provide support for students in all school settings, including special education classrooms, general education classrooms, gymnasiums, lunch rooms, playgrounds, and in the community.
  • May need to support the hygienic and personal needs of students, including medical protocols, supporting feeding needs, assisting with bathroom needs and/or changing, lifting, and physical assists.
