About The Position

Under the supervision of the building administrator, provide supervision of large groups of students during lunch periods to maintain acceptable behavior and assure the safety of students. Within this general framework, specific assignments will vary.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Valid first aid card.
• Basic concepts of child growth and development and developmental behavior characteristics.
• Student behavior management strategies and techniques.
• Demonstrate an understanding, patient and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups.
• Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.
• Follow directions and exercise independent judgment.
• Maintain confidentiality and display ethical behavior.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision of student behavior and safety during lunch periods including recreational time in the gym and outside play areas.
• Provide on-the-spot mediation for student-to-student conflicts.
• Monitor movement of students to and from classes.
• Circulate among students and resolve any minor problems that may occur.
• Provide assistance to the building administrator and staff in implementing safe and acceptable lunchroom behaviors.
• Maintain established disciplinary and safety policies, referring serious infractions to the building principal for action.
• Provide first aid in case of injury or illness and report serious incidents to the building office staff.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the building administrator.
