About The Position

The Pallet Jack Operator is responsible for collecting and delivering products using an electronic or hand-operated pallet jack, while strictly adhering to company safety and quality procedures. This role involves operating the pallet jack between various departments, buildings, and grounds, and handling a wide variety of materials. Key duties include detecting and reporting defective materials or questionable conditions, maintaining a clean and orderly work area and equipment, and following all safety regulations. The operator will deliver materials to work areas as directed by the production supervisor, stack materials in storage areas, and load shipments into trailers, ensuring all items are undamaged and handled safely. The position also requires identifying and reporting any mechanical problems or damage to the pallet jack for inspection and repair. Daily and weekly reports must be completed and delivered to the floor supervisor. Additionally, the operator is expected to be an active team member, participating in team development, communication, and policy implementation, coordinating work for best practices, and attending team meetings. The role involves fostering cohesiveness within the team, identifying and resolving issues, and contributing to overall organizational synergy. Familiarity with Simmons' operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies) and understanding the impact of individual actions on these systems, along with communicating concerns and improvement ideas, are also part of the role. This position is for the 3rd Shift.

Requirements

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain company issued pallet jack licenses.

Nice To Haves

Preferred experience in shipping and receiving, working with large moving equipment.
Preference for poultry or food processing organization.

Responsibilities

Operates an electronic or hand operated pallet jack between departments, buildings, and grounds.
Collects and delivers a wide variety of materials while adhering to established safety procedures.
Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
Delivers materials to work areas as directed from the production supervisor.
Stacks materials in storage areas and loads shipments in trailers.
Ensures product or equipment being moved is undamaged and handled in a safe manner.
Responsible for identifying any mechanical problems or damage with the pallet jack and ensuring the problems are reported to the supervisor for further inspection and repair.
Completes and delivers daily and weekly reports to the floor supervisor.
Participates as a member of the team, including ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies.
Coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members.
Attends appropriate team meetings.
Fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.
Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
Actively looks for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
Maintains familiarity with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies).
Understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
