Under general supervision, the Painting Technician II independently performs skilled painting tasks to maintain and protect interior and exterior surfaces throughout Liberty University. This position involves applying coatings using a variety of techniques, operating specialized equipment, and ensuring high-quality surface preparation and finish. The Painting Tech II assists in training lower-level technicians and contributes to project coordination efforts. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion is essential. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Reports to work on time and perform duties as assigned by the Painting Supervisor or Lead. 2. Work 1st or 2nd shift and participate in “Available to Work” rotation for emergency or after-hours maintenance. 3. Report promptly and perform duties as assigned by the Painting Supervisor or Lead Technician. 4. Independently prepare surfaces for painting, including advanced sanding, stripping, patching, and texturing of walls and ceilings. 5. Apply paints, varnishes, stains, and specialty coatings to interior and exterior surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment. 6. Operate and maintain paint sprayers and related specialized equipment following safety and manufacturer guidelines. 7. Assist in matching paint colors, mixing coatings, and determining appropriate products based on surface and environmental conditions. 8. Perform minor project planning and coordination, including estimating materials and communicating needs to supervisors. 9. Inspect surfaces and finished work for quality assurance, identifying defects and ensuring compliance with standards. 10. Assist in training and mentoring Painting Technician I staff. 11. Assist with inventory control and material handling to maintain adequate supplies and equipment readiness. 12. Complete and document work orders accurately and timely. 13. Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding work progress and issues. 14. Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing the job duties and responsibilities of the Painting craft including but not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed boots, respirators/masks, reflective safety vests, knee pads, coveralls, shoe covers, and fire extinguisher. As well as, responsible for having fall arrest anchors, wearing a harness with lanyards and retractables and other PPE if operating aerial lifts to perform & complete assigned jobs. 15. Stay updated on emerging painting technologies, products, and best practices in the industry. 16. Perform other duties as assigned. 17. As Essential Personnel, you must be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns and any emergencies, including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling, salting, etc. Maintenance Technicians are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, and CFAW, summer camps, amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise. 18. Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner. 19.
