About The Position

Performs interior and exterior protective coating work (e.g., prepares, seals, paints) on a variety of district buildings, equipment and surfaces (e.g., parking lots, gym floors). Must be willing to work in a team environment and cross train in applicable trades to increase efficiencies and ensure best practices are being followed. Must be willing to work flexible hours as needed to complete work in hard to access areas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED minimum required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License and meet District insurability standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and cleans up job site (e.g., erecting scaffolding), taking into consideration safety concerns of self and others (e.g., students, employees), and properly disposes of waste and flammable materials.
  • Applies protective coatings (e.g., single, multiple-stage) with paint equipment, using different substances (e.g., multi-spec paint, varnish, lacquer), using curing processes or multiple step processes.
  • Performs inventory control of supplies, determines work products and supplies needed for jobs, coordinates purchase order and obtains from local vendors.
  • Determines type of paint, stain or finish needed for surface; and mixes and matches custom products.
  • Re-caulks or re-glazes cracked or loose window caulking.
  • Performs maintenance, minor repairs and cleaning on shop equipment.
  • Estimates time needed to complete specific jobs, compares to scheduled time, and communicates differences with shop supervisors (e.g., crew chief, foreman).
  • Installs vinyl lettering (e.g., room numbers, directional signs) on surfaces.
  • Removes graffiti using equipment consistent with surface type.
  • Applies spread rock to floors or other surfaces (steps, swimming zero degree entry).
  • Communicates job objectives with District personnel at job site (e.g., school principals, custodian).
  • Performs work and cross trains in at least one other trade as an apprentice.
  • Assists with snow removal efforts on a 24 hour on-call basis.
  • Responds to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
