Requirements

  • Preferred 1–2-year experience in automotive painting
  • Preferred 1-2 years vocational education
  • Ability to run dual action sanders, grinders, and miscellaneous hand tools
  • Must have full knowledge of quality requirements to produce acceptable finish paint
  • Ability to communicate professionally and follow directions
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to learn how to mix primers and other paint products
  • Must have general knowledge of OSHA and EPA standards
  • Must have knowledge of operation of paint gun and know how to disassemble/assemble to clean and maintain optimal performance.

Responsibilities

  • Clean parts with wax and grease remover and inspect prior to painting
  • Prep product for final paint
  • Mix coatings with reducer and catalyst at correct mixtures, using color mixture equipment
  • Spray primers/Sealer with gravity feed primer spray gun
  • Apply color and clear coating with spray equipment to meet coverage and gloss standards
  • Check wet film mil thickness with wet mill gauge
  • Check dry film thickness with a dry film gauge
  • Must have the ability to correct errors in applications
  • Maintain spray equipment to meet operational standards but not including repair of equipment
  • Maintain paint booth cleanliness and filter changes and sign log sheets
  • Ensure that hazardous waste that is handled is placed in proper containers
  • Know spill response procedures and evacuation plan
  • Keep work area clean and organized
