About The Position

As a Production Leader, you will have Supervisory responsibility for a medium/large group of employees in the implementation and execution of the established business process for an area in the production operations and foster an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation. Work is of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of GMS; focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE). Possess the ability to deal with complex problems. Supervise a medium to large group of salaried employees involved in multiple departments/processes. May manage across multiple shifts. EXPERTISE: Possesses in-depth knowledge and working experience in the area supervised. Has broad knowledge of related areas and demonstrates good business acumen. Serves as a resource to their team for technical expertise, interaction with other teams and departments, and company policies and processes. Works independently on driving team results, determines resources to complete team assignments. Receives general management guidance. COMPLEXITY Creates and oversees operational plans for routine activities, which involve analyzing data and resolving issues within their area of responsibility. Utilizes judgment to develop programs, plans, and strategies that align with annual objectives. Enhances relationships and networks with senior internal/external partners who are not familiar with subject matter and often require persuasion. Uses data and analysis to demonstrate the value of a project, anticipating, and addressing objections and or concerns. Encourages open discussion of development needs on their team to enable mutual support and development regardless of starting place for all team members. Actively listens and responds to the concerns and feelings of colleagues in the immediate environments even when not explicitly stated to engage them towards a goal. Engages with subordinates and peer groups, promoting cooperation and interpreting and explaining information for each audience. Effectively communicates and presents recommendations and results across several job areas. SCOPE AND IMPACT Challenges and problems are of a diverse scope with multiple moving parts, where developing a plan and viewing the whole picture is a significant challenge itself. Work is done independently and is reviewed at critical points. Owns the development and delivery of solutions, driving cross team and group efforts. Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ year of experience in Manufcaturing environment
  • Ability to work / rotate through all 3 shifts (1st, 2nd & 3rd)
  • Ability to work over-time, weekends, holidays, etc. as needed
  • Microsoft, Outlook, HCC/Gameday, Kronos, PM&C, PR&T

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Paint Shop Processes and System Experience
  • Preferred leader well versed in being a catalyst to drive performance results (GMS, DRR, Float Reduction, FTQ)
  • Experience working with the UAW
  • Continuous improvement and lean manufacturing experience

Responsibilities

  • Maintain awareness of quality standards, and communicate department quality goals, and leverages resources to solve quality issues.
  • Build and maintain good working relationships with employees, union and management, and understand to consistently administer the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union.
  • Implements and follows systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues.
  • Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment
  • Participate in the selection of new employees and trains, develops and evaluates salaried and hourly employees, and the development of highly effective teams
  • Leads Global Manufacturing Systems(GMS) processes across multiple departments and serves as lead resource supporting launch and pilot activities in assigned areas
  • Meets or exceeds production cost schedule and maintains quality requirements
  • Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping.
  • Motivates, trains and develops employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods
  • Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training)
  • Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements
  • Coach, teach, counsel and mentor Group Leaders in these responsibilities.
