About The Position

The Paint Associate 6 position is an individual contributor in the Paint Department. This person must be a highly driven individual that will apply paint and/or powder coat Valmont products per customer requirements.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of previous experience in a painting position
  • Experience operating overhead cranes and forklift.
  • Ability to lift an average weight of 20 to 40 pounds, 40% of the time(i.e., all small parts, arms and pedestal bases), and lift 50 pound containers 5-10 times per shift .
  • The ability to calculate simple mathematics and interpret shop drawings.
  • Basic working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook or similar email software.
  • The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues.
  • The ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people.
  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions .
  • The ability to meet production, safety, and quality standards in a high-paced working environment.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), follow facility safety regulations, and work both in a non-temperature controlled environment and outdoors.
  • Ability to spend 100% of the shift standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, balancing, stooping, kneeling and lifting in the process of preparing and/or coating of all poles and parts within the department.

  • Two (2) year of previous experience in a painting position
  • Experience using dry mill thickness gauges, wet film thickness gauges and micrometers.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times.
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.
  • Able to do basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and fraction conversion)
  • Able to read and comprehend routings and blueprints
  • Able to use a tape measure
  • Able to use a computer to enter production date, perform time keeping functions, interface with machines and other equipment

Responsibilities

  • Use electrostatic powder coating equipment as well as performing basic troubleshooting and maintenance of the equipment
  • Rack and unrack parts, brush off, fill, sand, and clean parts for painting
  • Prepare paint booth, clean and set-up paint application system.
  • Use measuring devices such as a dew point meter, dry film thickness gauge, and surface profile gauges
  • Operate bridge cranes, gantry cranes, forklifts, blasting equipment, packaging equipment, as well as overhead cranes, power tools, and lowerators
  • Read and decipher shop drawings and reference finish specifications
  • Bend and pivot as well as lift, push, and pull objects weighing 50 pounds through out the shift
  • Ability to stand, walk, crouch, kneel, and climb stairs and ladders
  • Must possess acceptable work history and attendance record
  • Ability to work overtime when required for business needs
  • The ability to be forklift certified within first 90 days of the job
  • Responsible for determine the amount of coating applied and give statisfactory or specified coatings.
  • Ability to mix and blend paint for color, texture, and customer related finishes.
  • Responsible for applying paint/powder coating to customer supplied parts per customer requirements.
  • Blasts the product using a blasting cabinet and ensures the product has a sufficient blast profile .
  • Responsible for blowing shot and dust off of parts and repairs all damaged galvanizing and removes all oil and contaminates.
  • Must be able to determine the acceptance or rejection of finished coated poles and small parts according to standard specifications.
  • Responsible for final visual quality check of poles and crossarms if applicable.
  • Prepare finished goods for shipment.
  • Performs basic maintenance on blasting, rigging, and packaging equipment.
  • Helps train employees in proper packaging, blasting, and hanging techniques .
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Safety through excellent safety practices and behaviors and conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures
  • Actively participate in department LEAN activities of the department and demonstrated performance working in a team environment.
  • Ensure high quality products with visual quality check
  • The employee must maintain a safe and productive work environment producing a quality product which is shipped complete and on time to satisfy the needs of the customer.
  • Maintain and operate painting, blasting, rigging, and packaging equipment safely
  • The employee has a direct impact on safety, quality, productivity, TME (total manufacturing expenses), and customer satisfaction.
  • The employee is responsible for own work .
  • Must be able to work with other employees to complete job .
  • Other duties as required and/or assigned.
