About The Position

The Post and Courier in Charleston, SC is seeking a Newspaper page designer for both online and print editions of its daily, weekly, and monthly publications. The role involves creating visually compelling page layouts, ensuring brand and style conformity, and collaborating with editors, writers, photographers, and other design team members. The designer will be responsible for preparing print-ready files, reviewing designs for errors, resolving production issues, and managing multiple projects under strict deadlines, including making last-minute adjustments for breaking news.

Requirements

• Exceptional design skills and news judgement
• Ability to meet deadlines with accuracy
• Strong interpersonal and excellent grammar and language skills
• Experience working with Adobe InDesign and knowledge of AP style
• Bachelor's degree in graphic design and/or journalism or comparable experience

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and BLOX CMS a plus

Responsibilities

• Create and produce visually compelling page layouts for daily and weekly online and print editions using design software such as Adobe InDesign.
• Ensure that all layouts conform to the newspaper's established brand and style.
• Regularly communicate with editors and writers regarding story placement, layout, and visual presentation.
• Prepare print-ready files, managing color profiles, resolution, and other technical aspects for quality output.
• Review and proof designs to check for errors in layout, typography, and image placement.
• Communicate with pre-press and printing departments to resolve any production issues.
• Work closely with writers, editors, photographers, and other design team members to coordinate projects.
• Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while adhering to strict and tight deadlines.
• Stay flexible and be ready to make last-minute adjustments for breaking news stories.
