Radiology PACS Manager (RPM) is responsible for the supervision of day-to-day operations of the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) on a multi-site/multi-facility basis for the South Texas Health System (STHS) Radiology and Cardiology Departments to facilitate optimal system performance and to ensure that medical image storage/retrieval is accurate, reliable and timely and conducted in compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. RPM will coordinate and manage various aspects of digital imaging, including image transfer from DICOM (Digital Image Communication in Medicine) imaging modalities, storage of clinical data in a secure environment, and distribution/display of both clinical images and corresponding diagnostic information. Work also includes: 1) serving as the STHS point-person for all issues relating to PACS; 2) providing education and user support for application and system software, new systems and upgrades, databases, interfaces and hardware relative to PACS; 3) establishing effective relationships with Radiology, Cardiology, and Information Services staff, healthcare providers, and product vendors; and 4) coordinating, documenting and maintaining policies and procedures that drive security, disaster recovery, data integrity, workflow, future expansion as well as other tasks as they relate to the PACS. Work requires a broad understanding of Radiology and Cardiology processes/workflow and imaging dynamics, as well as expertise in the application of structured analysis, testing, implementation and documentation methodologies relative to automated systems. RPM works closely with various departments to configure, deploy and support the initial PACS installation and to maintain and support PACS on an ongoing basis. Radiology PACS Manager (RPM) will have daily contact with employees with varying levels of computer sophistication, and in responding to requests for guidance, RPM must listen carefully to the customers, ask questions to diagnose the nature of the problem, and then determine the best approach to resolving the problem. The work requires strong problem-solving, analytical and communication skills because customer service and technical troubleshooting are vital parts of the job. Considering the rapid pace of new and improved technologies, an RPM must keep skills up-to-date and in line with changing STHS and Universal Health Services (UHS) needs, objectives and priorities. Work also includes providing on-call support as necessary, and the requirement to be available 24/7 to respond to routine emergency situations and to perform regularly scheduled maintenance.
