Position Summary Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the Packaging Buyer is responsible for ensuring the appropriate level of packaging materials to support manufacturing operations. This role plays a key part in supplier management, cost control, sourcing new materials, and cross-functional collaboration to support production efficiency and business goals.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to collaborate across departments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn food labeling laws
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive problem solver
  • 3–5 years of experience in purchasing, supply chain, or procurement
  • Experience supporting a manufacturing environment required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field preferred but not required
  • Experience in food manufacturing strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitor inventory levels of packaging materials and place purchase orders aligned with production forecasts and company standards
  • Source new packaging materials as needed; support bid requests and assist with price negotiations
  • Evaluate supplier performance related to pricing, service, and delivery
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships; consolidate vendors where appropriate
  • Coordinate closely with Production, Marketing, and other departments to ensure correct materials are available at the right time and location
  • Support new packaging initiatives including size, design, and specification changes
  • Maintain accurate vendor files including pricing, specifications, lead times, and service levels
  • Execute approved purchase contracts and inventory transfers
  • Monitor market conditions that may impact packaging costs and report findings as needed
  • Provide backup support for other buyers to ensure uninterrupted procurement operations
  • Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives
