About The Position

As the primary caregivers for each camper in their group Owlet Camp Counselors must be fun, dynamic and safety-conscious. Camp Counselors plan and implement daily schedules, lead activities and songs, coordinate with co-counselors, and communicate with parents. All staff at Camp Kingfisher are hired to: lead campers as a positive, caring role model provide campers with fun, positive outdoor learning experiences help campers grow and learn through challenges

Requirements

  • Willingness to work outdoors during the summer season
  • Must be able to lift over 20 pounds
  • Valid driver’s license or state issued ID
  • Current tetanus shot or willingness to obtain one
  • Experience (and passion for) teaching or working with young children
  • Comfortable in an outdoor setting

Nice To Haves

  • Background in environmental education, natural history, education, child care, or camps
  • Willingness to handle captive wildlife, training provided

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Owlet group, 4 year olds, in an outdoor setting
  • Lead camper activities with excellence and enthusiasm
  • Develop and implement environmental education activities (hikes, animal demonstrations, science exploration activities) on a daily basis, program resources provided
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff
  • Clean camp facilities as needed/required
  • Handle captive wildlife daily in camp programs
  • Attend weekly camp staff meetings and trainings
  • Assist in program areas as directed
  • Contribute to verbal/written evaluations and communication as requested
  • Keep track of and recording hours worked, requesting director’s approval for any additional hours prior to work
  • Complete additional duties as assigned
