We are seeking a passionate and mission-driven Overnight Lead Coordinator to help expand the impact of Shepherd’s House Ministries across all sites and advance this life-changing work. The Overnight Lead Coordinator will protect and enhance the safety, security, and integrity of The Lighthouse Navigation Center (“The Lighthouse”), specifically focusing on its overnight guests. Under the supervision of the Director of Low Barrier Services and the Director of Navigation Services, the Overnight Lead Coordinator will lead and directly supervise all other overnight staff, including Safety Coordinators, Safety Monitors, and Safety Specialists. The role involves overseeing overnight services to The Lighthouse shelter guests, maintaining overnight watch and patrols around The Lighthouse property and neighborhood, addressing safety concerns, and collaborating with relevant personnel to manage security issues. The Overnight Lead Coordinator will perform their duties and responsibilities to care for the needs of The Lighthouse participants, enhance the fulfillment of The Lighthouse mission, collaborate well with all community partners and neighbors, and provide a safe and healing environment for everyone at The Lighthouse.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in social services, security, or a related field is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a shelter or social service setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a diverse community.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry.
  • The candidate should be capable of engaging in physical activity as needed to ensure safety and security.
  • Engaging with participants and staff, often requiring de-escalation skills and trauma-informed approaches.
  • Maintaining a calm demeanor in high-stress situations.
  • Exposure to outdoor elements during patrols and potentially odorous environments due to guests’ circumstances.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility and surrounding property for extended periods.
  • Ability to respond quickly to safety or emergency situations.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and occasionally lift or carry items up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively to monitor activity and interact with others.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions and maintain alertness during extended shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Supervision: Lead and directly supervise all overnight staff, ensuring clear and effective communication among the team.
  • Guest Services: Provide a welcoming, safe environment at The Lighthouse, encouraging participants to access and benefit from overnight shelter, meals, and other services.
  • Intake and Registration: Perform overnight intake and First Stay Registration, ensuring thorough, accurate, and welcoming service. Collaborate with SHM leadership to achieve accurate data entry into the HMIS system.
  • Safety and Security: Ensure the safety and security of The Lighthouse guests and property by standing watch, patrolling, engaging individuals with safety concerns, and alerting appropriate personnel or law enforcement as necessary.
  • Engagement: Approach individuals with a kind and curious posture to identify and address safety concerns, prioritizing de-escalation and trauma-informed engagement.
  • Conduct Guidance: Guide participants in safe, responsible conduct according to The Lighthouse’s Relational Agreements and other relevant guidelines.
  • Ancillary Services: Provide additional services such as meals, hygiene supplies, and first aid to meet guest needs.
  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in all areas of The Lighthouse, especially in the dorm, bedding storage, and food service areas.
  • Team Participation: Participate in and lead staff meetings and trainings, organizing or assigning leadership as needed for the overnight team.
  • Documentation: Prepare and distribute Guest Incident Reports and other necessary documentation to support safety and security.
  • Community Relations: Collaborate with the team to protect and enhance relationships with community neighbors and maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the surrounding neighborhood.
  • Administrative Duties: Perform administrative tasks such as interfacing with SHM’s payroll system, accessing SHM email, and maintaining the integrity of The Lighthouse’s filing systems.
  • Other Duties: Fulfill any other relevant duties, tasks, and responsibilities as communicated by the Directors of Emergency Services, Navigation Services, and other SHM staff.
