About The Position

YMCA Camp Twin Lakes is looking for positive role models to join our team as Overnight Camp Group Leads for Summer 2026. Our Overnight Camp Group Leads facilitate student programming, provide support, supervision, and encouragement to our campers, and impact lives in powerful ways! The Overnight Camp Lead is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a designated cabin section at Camp Twin Lakes, overseeing both campers and staff. This leadership role supports camper safety, staff supervision, program quality, and overall camp operations while fostering positive relationships with campers, parents, and staff. The Overnight Camp Lead models YMCA core values, ensures policies and procedures are followed, and works closely with the Camp Director to create a safe, engaging, and mission-driven overnight camp experience. Overnight Camp Counselors will live and work at camp from late May through early August.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred
  • Previous experience working with children or in a camp setting preferred
  • Ability to live on-site for the duration of the camp program
  • Ability to provide active supervision and maintain engagement with groups of children
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities
  • Willingness to obtain CPR, First Aid, and AED certification within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical activities including walking long distances, lifting up to 50 pounds, swimming, and participating in camp program
  • Must pass reference checks, pre-employment drug screen, background check and sex offender registry check

  • Additional certifications (Lifeguarding, Archery, Riflery, High Ropes, etc.) are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a cabin section, overseeing campers and a team of counselors
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to staff, including scheduling, punctuality, and performance oversight
  • Ensure the physical, emotional, and social safety of campers and staff at all times
  • Actively supervise camp activities while remaining engaged and approachable
  • Implement age-appropriate activities and apply positive youth development and behavior management strategies
  • Communicate regularly with the Camp Director regarding camper, staff, or parent concerns
  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation including attendance, incident reports, behavior reports, and daily section updates
  • Assist with daily and weekly camp logistics and program execution
  • Lead or assist with camp activities including waterfront, nature, archery, arts & crafts, ropes, and all-camp programs
  • Ensure safety procedures, emergency protocols, and health guidelines are followed
  • Monitor camper and staff well-being, including hydration, heat safety, and medication procedures
  • Support facility upkeep by ensuring cabins, activity areas, and shared spaces remain clean and organized
  • Participate fully in staff training, meetings, and leadership responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by camp leadership
  • Will be required to work at least one full weekend camp program
