About The Position

The Lead Camp Counselor is a frontline shift leader responsible for overseeing daily Camp operations, ensuring Camper safety, and guiding Camp Counselors in delivering structured, high-quality care. Building upon the foundational responsibilities of a Camp Counselor, the Lead role adds operational oversight, team direction, and elevated accountability for health documentation, behavior management, and policy compliance. This position serves as a keyholder and acts as the Manager-on-Duty in the absence of senior leadership. The Lead Camp Counselor plays a critical role in risk prevention, pet parent communication, and maintaining a safe, organized, and positive Camp environment aligned with our mission of “Making Happy Campers.” The ideal candidate is a dependable and confident leader who has demonstrated strong performance as a Camp Counselor and is ready to take on greater responsibility. You lead by example and are comfortable coaching peers in real time. You remain calm in high-energy or emergency situations and use sound judgment when addressing health or behavioral concerns. You are detail-oriented with documentation, proactive in communication, and committed to upholding operational standards without compromise. You understand that safety, structure, and consistency are essential to a successful Camp environment.

Responsibilities

  • Shift Leadership & Operational Oversight
  • Serve as keyholder and ensure compliance with all opening, closing, and security procedures.
  • Act as shift leader, providing direction and oversight to Camp Counselors.
  • Ensure proper Camper-to-Counselor ratios are maintained at all times.
  • Oversee Camper rotations, yard flow, and back-of-house operations to maintain safety and structure.
  • Conduct shift-end walkthroughs to verify completion of required checklists and safety standards.
  • Ensure all Campers are properly fed, medicated, and housed according to established protocols.
  • Support with various FOH and BOH tasks, as stated in the Camp Counselor and FOH Camp Counselor job descriptions.
  • Camper Health, Safety & Behavior Management
  • Monitor Campers for signs of illness, injury, stress, or behavioral concerns.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of health and behavior incidents in required systems.
  • Communicate directly with pet parents regarding health or behavioral matters when required.
  • Escalate significant concerns to management immediately.
  • Reinforce safe handling practices, structured play techniques, and yard etiquette standards.
  • Team Guidance & Accountability
  • Provide coaching, delegation, and real-time feedback to Camp Counselors.
  • Reinforce company policies, procedures, and safety expectations.
  • Identify and communicate performance concerns or policy violations to management.
  • Maintain consistent shift communication with fellow Leads and management, including required log updates.
  • Support training of new Camp Counselors and model best practices.
  • Safety & Compliance Execution
  • Ensure medications and feedings are administered accurately and documented properly.
  • Verify cabins are secure, properly labeled, and organized.
  • Maintain oversight of safe gate management procedures and Camper transitions.
  • Uphold all Camp policies regarding yard supervision, safety equipment, and staff attentiveness.
  • Support a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment.
