This position is responsible for consistently following all Safety Work Rules and reinforcing Safety as a Core Value. The role ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities related to Food Safety and Quality are followed uniformly to reduce product and process variability. The Oven Operator is expected to safely and efficiently operate all ovens (molded and belt grill) in the Pre‑Cooked Department to produce egg patties and omelets that meet high standards of quality and efficiency. This position requires thorough knowledge of product specifications, cooking procedures, pre‑heat systems, and the mechanical and technical operation of multiple oven types. The quality of work performed directly impacts customer satisfaction and continued business.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and communicate effectively in one‑on‑one or small group settings.
  • Ability to perform basic math: add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common‑sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram‑based instructions.
  • Ability to solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong mechanical skills; ability to use and personally maintain basic tools (Allen wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.).
  • Detailed knowledge of all five ovens (molded and belt) in the department.
  • Basic computer skills to operate PLCs for ovens and spirals.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work indoors in warm, humid environments for the duration of the shift.
  • Ability to travel stairs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all safety procedures and GMPs; ability to set a positive example for others.
  • Ability to wear required PPE (bump cap, hearing protection, steel‑toed shoes, etc.).
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform essential duties.

Responsibilities

  • Take personal responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. Follow all safety policies and procedures and incorporate safety into all tasks.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance at all times.
  • Start production runs on ovens and achieve/maintain desired production levels on molded ovens.
  • Operate all ovens (molded and belt) and manage more than one oven simultaneously when required.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the entire oven room, including ovens, pre‑heat systems, transfer conveyors, and spiral freezers.
  • Set or adjust pre‑heat temperatures, oven temperatures, and flow rates on molded ovens.
  • Troubleshoot oven issues and assist Maintenance in identifying mechanical problems.
  • Switch pre‑heat scrapes during production as needed.
  • Set and adjust fill parameters on hi‑bar pumps and injectors for molded ovens.
  • Replace O‑rings and gaskets, change fouled injector tips, and replace pumps as needed.
  • Demonstrate strong product recognition, including understanding product specifications and identifying when adjustments are needed (size, weight, color, shape, cupping).
  • Understand the use of steam in the cooking process and adjust dampers for air control.
  • Assist the Lead Operator in maintaining production levels during absences.
  • Evaluate product quality and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and support general housekeeping efforts.
  • Notify Lead Operator and/or Supervisor of any issues or changes in operating conditions.
  • Collaborate with Lead Operator and/or Supervisor to improve processing procedures.
  • Participate as a member of the Oven Operators Council.
  • Complete all required documentation, including operator check sheets and HACCP records.
  • Understand the basic operation of spiral freezers.
  • Work with the Lead Operator to learn appropriate corrective actions for oven and product issues.
  • Understand oven‑to‑spiral transfers, belt placement, and speed adjustments.
  • Communicate operational issues and concerns clearly with Lead Operator and/or Supervisor.
  • Monitor line workers assigned to molded ovens and correct performance issues when necessary.
  • Enter data in Redzone and attend two daily huddles.
  • Work effectively as a team member.
  • Follow safe work practices, GMPs, and HACCP guidelines; maintain sanitary conditions; and ensure product quality to support SQF certification.
  • Report any conditions or practices that may negatively impact food safety, product quality, or personnel safety.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
