About The Position

Propulsion Controls Engineering has a job openings for Outside Machinist Journeyman, with a minimum 5 years of marine and/or shipyard experience preferred; at our San Diego, CA location.  PCE is a full service electro-mechanical repair and diesel repair contractor. PCE has garnered a wealth of extensive experience in successfully executing major system overhauls across numerous ports throughout the world on virtually every class of ship currently in operation. Job Summary / Outside Machinist: Capable of accomplishing the installation, maintenance, and repair of ship's propulsion and auxiliary systems including, but not limited to Steam, Gas Turbine, and Diesel propulsion systems, rudders and steering gear, elevators, and deck equipment without Supervision. Capable of accomplishing the installation repair, and maintenance of ship's fluid systems which include pumps, compressors, purifiers, heat exchangers, actuators and valves without Supervision. Analyze defects and adjusts or repairs electrical mechanical systems of outboard motors.  Disassembles and inspects motor for defective parts, using mechanical hand tools. Replaces parts like gears., magneto points, piston rings and spark plugs and reassembles engine. Capable of accomplishing the testing of equipment to ensure systems meet 4E specifications, references and drawings without Supervision. Capable of accomplishing the installation and testing of various shop equipment.  Must have ability to follow repair references and drawings and be proficient in the use of precision measuring equipment.  Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
  • Minimum 5 years of marine and/or shipyard experience preferred.
  • Must have ability to follow repair references and drawings and be proficient in the use of precision measuring equipment.
  • This position may require access to U.S. government or military sites. As such, candidates must be eligible to obtain base access clearance, which includes passing a background check and presenting valid government-issued identification. Per federal requirements, acceptable ID must be REAL ID-compliant or an approved form of federal identification, such as a valid U.S. passport.

  • Marine Hydraulics or Marine Refrigeration a plus.
