Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
  • Experience saddling and handling horses required; racing experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with horse racing workout operations strongly preferred.
  • Must have effective written and verbal communication skills; must be fluent and literate in English.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays, and fluctuating days off as business needs dictate.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to all departmental and property policies and procedures regarding guest service standards.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining safety on the track; ensures team members are completing their jobs and reports any issues to higher-level management staff.
  • Catches any loose horses on track during morning workouts or in the afternoon before each race; oversees morning exercise routines and maintains order; leads horses during morning workouts.
  • Leads horses from the paddock to the track before each race; leads horses to the gate at post time.
  • Attends and participates in professional group meetings; maintains awareness of new trends and innovations in the field of thoroughbred racing.
  • Performs all other related and compatible duties as assigned.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all company matters.
