About The Position

The Outreach, Research & Communications director is a mission-driven leader responsible for advancing the Trust's visibility, strengthening community partnerships, and ensuring that organizational decisions are grounded in research, data, and community voice. This position brings together community engagement, organizational learning, and strategic communications to help the Trust tell its story with authenticity and impact. This position operates under the direct supervision of the Executive Director. The Director serves as a central connector-bridging the Trust's initiatives, partner networks, and broader community-to deepen relationships, elevate shared learning, and ensure that messaging aligns with the Trust's mission, values, and 2026–2028 strategic plan. In addition, this position provides supervision and leadership for the Leo Center and Hospitality teams, ensuring clarity of roles, operational excellence, and growth opportunity that aligns with the Trust's mission and values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public administration, social sciences, nonprofit management, community development, or a related field; or equivalent lived/professional experience.
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in community engagement, communications, research/evaluation, or cross-sector partnership development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural, multilingual environments.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, including experience presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Experience conducting research, evaluation, or community needs assessments.
  • Strong project management and facilitation skills.
  • Alignment with the Broetje Family Trust's mission and servant leadership values.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an outreach strategy that strengthens relationships with local partners, residents, community leaders, and regional networks.
  • Represent the Trust at community events, meetings, and collaborative tables.
  • Facilitate community listening sessions, conversations, and participatory processes to elevate resident voice and inform internal decision-making.
  • Support place-based initiatives (e.g., Tierra Vida, Vida Café, NELA School) in building strong, trust-filled relationships with families and local organizations.
  • Ensure a welcoming and relational presence across all Broetje Family Trust spaces and programs.
  • Lead research and evaluation efforts that strengthen program effectiveness, inform strategy, and illuminate community needs and assets.
  • Create systems for ongoing data collection, analysis, and reporting across Trust initiatives.
  • Develop learning frameworks, dashboards, and briefs to support decision-making by staff and the Board.
  • Facilitate cross-initiative learning sessions, reflection practices, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Monitor trends in philanthropy, community development, social justice, and regional demographics to support forward-looking planning.
  • Oversee internal and external communications to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with the Trust's values and strategic plan.
  • Lead storytelling efforts that lift up partners, community voices, and lived experiences with dignity and respect.
  • Collaborate with media/IT staff to manage digital communications, including website, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Develop annual reports, board communications, and public-facing materials in partnership with initiative leads.
  • Maintain brand integrity and visual identity across all materials and platforms.
  • Serve as a member of the leadership team, contributing to organizational planning, culture, and strategic direction.
  • Collaborate with initiative leads (Community of Servant Leadership, Instituto/ISL, Global Grants, Shelton Award, etc.) and Executive Director to ensure outreach, research, and communications efforts are integrated across programs.
  • Support staff training in communications, community engagement, and data-informed decision-making.
  • Prepare presentations, reports, and updates for Board of Directors meetings.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and direct supervision for the Leo Center and Hospitality teams, ensuring alignment with the Trust's mission and values.
  • Track staff performance and support their development to meet the standards and skills necessary to successfully achieve their duties, while also maintaining and developing staff schedules to ensure operational needs are met.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and maintain up-to-date job descriptions to ensure clarity of roles, accountability, and consistency with organizational standards.
