About The Position

Under the direction of the Supervisor and Director, will organize and coordinate the daily operation of the Phlebotomy Services. Also supervises outpatient and off–site drawing stations. Will perform phlebotomy functions and non–technical duties. Supervises the staff of Phlebotomy Services. Compensation Pay Range: $21.46 - $28.89

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick) according to established procedure of South Shore Health & Educational Corporation.
  • Will coordinate the training of new employees and student interns.
  • Follows all organizational and department or unit policies and procedures.
  • Will order supplies and maintain sufficient inventory to efficiently operate phlebotomy services.
  • Will prepare schedules and work assignments in order to provide appropriate coverage for our Outreach patients.
  • Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes
  • Calls/faxes/delivers reports to Outreach/Off-site clients/areas as required.
  • Performs clerical duties such as computer entry & filing.
  • Will act as a receptionist, answer phones in the Outreach office.
  • Is responsible for department’s operational excellence; assures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards.
  • Manages human resources to assure quality services and promote positive employee relations.
  • Recommends ways to reduce expenditures and/or enhance revenues without compromising quality of services.
  • Effectively communicates departmental, organization and industry information to staff.
  • Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission.
  • Technology – Is receptive to technological solutions to work processes and practices.
  • Safety Awareness – Fosters a “Culture of Safety” through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment as stated in the Safety Management Program Manual, Infection Control Manual and Phlebotomy Policies & Procedure Manual.
  • Participates in continued learning and possess a willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures that continue to develop in their role and throughout the organization.
  • Embraces technological advances that allow us to communicate information effectively and efficiently based on role.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Helps other phlebotomists and communicates with other departments, when needed, to ensure an orderly workflow.
  • Will call in phlebotomists on an as needed basis in order to maintain appropriate staffing.
  • Fills open shifts in advance.
  • Fills open shifts with short notice due to sick calls.
