About The Position

Mary’s Place is on a mission to ensure that no child sleeps outside. As an organizational thought leader, change agent, and member of the Mary’s Place Leadership Team, the Outreach & Diversion Director oversees Mary’s Place’s mobile outreach work to families who are living unsheltered (e.g., outside, in vehicles, tents, etc.) throughout King County. The director also leads a collaborative of nonprofit organizations providing family services at the Allen Family Center (AFC) in Seattle’s Mount Baker neighborhood. Additionally, the director oversees our partnerships with local hospitals to ensure families and pregnant individuals do not discharge into homelessness. Throughout these ventures, the Outreach & Diversion Director operates a Housing First model and applies innovative, responsive, and trauma-informed approaches to help families secure permanent housing. Furthermore, the director works to strengthen and broaden the spectrum of outreach and diversion services Mary’s Place offers. The director has a keen attention to detail and manages multiple grants, contracts, and budgets. They oversee Mary’s Place Outreach Request Portal, steward numerous partnerships, and work to deepen our connections to community stakeholders and providers. The Outreach and Diversion Director actively engages in Mary’s Place racial equity work—striving for equitable outcomes and taking responsibility for creating, maintaining, and affirming communities for people of color, immigrants, and refugees, trans and gender-non-conforming people, and other populations who routinely encounter systemic oppressions. The director leads the Outreach & Diversion Team, including supervising two Outreach Managers who oversee a combined total of eleven outreach coordinators and specialists, an Outreach Administrative Coordinator, and a variable number of interns. This is a full-time, exempt position with the flexibility to work some weekends, evenings, and holidays to meet the demands of the job. The annual salary range for this position is $100K - $105K.

Requirements

Four or more years of experience in housing and homelessness services (e.g. outreach, rapid rehousing, housing navigation, etc.); extensive knowledge of Seattle and King County housing programs
Three or more years of experience supervising paid staff
Three or more years of experience managing programs; demonstrated experience evaluating and scaling programs
Demonstrated understanding of trauma informed care, motivational interviewing, and harm reduction principles; MSW strongly preferred
Demonstrated experience managing complex grants and program budgets
Demonstrated ability to work well with individuals: experiencing acute behavioral and physical health needs, fleeing family violence and/or sex trafficking, and/or experiencing substance use disorder while pregnant and/or parenting
Demonstrated ability to work well with people from all racial, cultural, social, and economic backgrounds with various identities and experiences
Strong ties and community connections to South Seattle and South King County preferred
Demonstrated creative problem solving, conflict mediation, and crisis management skills
Demonstrated knowledge of hospital and clinic system preferred
Demonstrated ability to set appropriate boundaries and maintain professional demeanor in a high stress environment
Highly motivated, self-started, resourceful, attention to detail, flexible, and possesses a positive attitude
Ability to work well independently in a self-directed manner and as part of a team
Exceptional time management and organizational skills, attention to detail, and proven ability to multitask, set priorities, and meet deadlines
Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and HMIS; experience with Agency/Chasers preferred
Strong reading, writing, speaking, and listening (communication) skills in English; additional fluency in Portuguese, Amharic, Spanish, Lingala, Oromo, French, Russian, Tigrinya, or Marshallese is preferred
Legally able to drive in Washington State and flexibility to be mobile to meet emergent needs
Willing to take and submit a TB test within thirty days of hire

Responsibilities

Develop and execute a bold vision for the Outreach & Diversion Department that is clearly articulated in a a theory of change and annual operating plans; track and deliver departmental outcomes and strategic goals; deliver consistently high quality outreach services
Work with the Outreach Managers and Administrative Coordinator to develop and implement comprehensive plans to quickly enroll families living unsheltered and ensure that at least 70% of families exit to sustainable, permanent housing solutions
Actively participate on Mary’s Place Extended Leadership Team and Program Leadership Team to guide Mary’s Place program vision, strategy, and services
Oversee family services and operations at the Allen Family Center, in collaboration with community partners; ensure the space is welcoming, accessible, and adequately staffed
Create and update Outreach policies and procedures; ensure they are vetted through Mary’s Place racial equity tool and are well-documented in the Outreach Service Manual
Research and remain up to date on best practices in outreach and diversion and its intersections with race equity and trauma
Implement mechanisms to elevate and center client voice in decision making and program improvement
Be accountable for the overall safety of Outreach staff, activities, and programming
Provide on-call crisis response as needed
Provide leadership for a team of diverse professionals, including the hiring, direct and indirect supervision, coaching, development, and performance management of staff and interns
Conduct weekly 1:1 supervision meetings with all direct reports, and ensure that all indirect reports receive weekly 1:1 coaching from their direct supervisor; apply trauma-informed and motivational interviewing leadership principles
Ensure that all staff are onboarded and trained with fidelity
Create agendas for and facilitate bi-monthly Outreach staff meetings; review data and outcomes in staff meetings
Approach challenges and collaborative efforts with a strengths-based and solution-oriented positive attitude

Create and maintain effective systems for collecting and documenting data in compliance with internal and external requirements
Ensure that all client and program files, policies, procedures, and outcomes follow contractual and agency standards
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of Outreach data, outcomes, and contractual requirements
Develop policies and oversee the management of all financial and direct client assistance requests
Create and manage program budgets; ensure compliance with restricted funding sources; review, approve, and code program expenditures
Seek funding opportunities and assist with grant writing and reporting
Collaboratively set agenda and co-facilitate monthly AFC Leadership Meetings for members of the AFC Collaborative
Develop and establish strong community relationships with community-based organizations to provide robust services for Mary’s Place families
Coordinate with community providers and coalitions that advocate for the well-being of unsheltered families, pregnant individuals, and single adult women
Develop relationships with municipal government agencies and coordinate with their emergency response teams
Cultivate strong collaborative relationships with all Mary’s Place departments
Attend, coordinate, and lead Outreach-related events as needed
Create and implement a clear program strategy that works in collaboration with local hospitals
Develop community relationships with housing providers, landlords, and other stakeholders to provide robust services for Mary’s Place Outreach families
