At Block by Block, Ambassadors are employed to make public spaces better by making them friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities they serve. The Outreach Ambassador role is ideal for individuals who are outgoing and friendly, and enjoy working outside and meeting new people. This position is also a great opportunity for community workers, retirees, and veterans. The core of the role involves frequently canvassing the zone to interact with and seek out the homeless/unhoused on the streets, building relationships of trust with a "compassion first" approach. Ambassadors direct individuals in public spaces to services or more suitable locations, leveraging a strong understanding of available social services. They also respond to requests from merchants or visitors to engage with persons in need, helping to de-escalate and redirect activities. Establishing relationships with relevant agencies is crucial for cooperative efforts to positively impact the unsheltered. Additionally, Ambassadors provide small comfort items like water or toiletries and are required to complete basic daily reports, necessitating proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
